Dick Van Dyke

I am a huge Dick Van Dyke fan.  About a year ago, I bought his book and have been carrying it around hoping to see him.  It never happened....That is until this weekend.  He made his first appearance ever at the Hollywood Show this year.  With book in hand, I made my way to the Westin at LAX to get "my moment" with the talented Dick Van Dyke.  The line was long and they gave out numbers to those waiting - #351 for me.  Finally, my number was called and I got to have a short chat with my hero.  He was sweet, friendly and happy.  It was wonderful!  THANK YOU Dick Van Dyke!

Farmers Market

The Farmers Market first opened in July of 1934.  It is a historic Los Angeles, California landmark.
The Market consists of booths with food, produce, or souvenir type items. Some describe it as an open food market.  It is a fun place to go and many tourists check it out daily.

Michael Connelly - My Favorite Author

I generally read about 2-3 books per week.   Crime fiction and mysteries and suspense are my favorite type of books.  Michael Connelly is the BEST Detective novel writer and he is my favorite author.  I have read everything he has written so I was very excited to learn that he was having a book signing at my favorite independent Book Store in Orange, CA - Book Carnival.  The Book Store has even appeared in one of his novels.  How cool is that?

I am happy to report that he was very kind and even agreed to snap this picture of us.  It makes me so happy when someone you admire meets your expectations if you are lucky enough to meet them.  Michael Connelly did and I am waiting  patiently for his next novel - due November 2015.

Pink's Hot Dogs - Hollywood

After the Wax Museum, we headed to PINK's for some lunch.  I've been there several times and generally there is a LONG line .  We were lucky today, there was no line and no trouble parking.      WIN WIN!  My friend Jean and I each had a Martha Stewart Dog - Relish, Tomato, Cheese, Bacon , Sauerkraut and Sour Cream.  My was minus the Sauerkraut!  It was delicious!

Madame Tussauds - Hollywood

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Hollywood has been on my Bucket List for a couple of years.  Recently, I made the trip and went through the three story building.  It was fun to take pictures with my favorite celebrities.  While some of the figures look life like, some of them are rather creepy. The Museum opens at 10 am and we got there around 10:15 so there was no crowd. It was a fun morning and now I have checked this off my Bucket List!

Crazy Pies Truck - Orange is the New Black

I am a big fan of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK.  To celebrate the second season, Netflix sent a Crazy Pie truck to a few locations across the United States.  They visited a couple of places in Southern California - including Venice Beach. Unfortunately, they ran out of pies before I got there, but it was fun to see it and snap some pictures.

Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria

During last years Academy Awards, Ellen ordered pizza for the audience.  While watching it, I decided that I had to find the place and give it a try.  Fortunately, it wasn't hard.. The pizza was great!

Melt Eclectic Cafe - Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives

I am a huge fan of Guy Fieri and the Food Network Show DINER'S DRIVE-INS AND DIVES.
I've visited at least 30 locations over the years.  When I go to a new city, I always check out the places where Guy has visited.  Over the holidays, I was in Cincinnati, OH and there were several DDD's to choose from.  We decided on the Melt Eclectic CafĂ©.  It was a good choice.  The menu is funky and tasty and the wait person was pleasant and fun while she answered our questions about the filming of the episode.  It was filmed in July of 2014 and aired a couple months later in September.

Lorraine Hotel - Memphis, TN

On April 4, 1968, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated at the Lorraine Hotel.  He was  in Room 306.  Built in 1925, the building is a landmark and a museum.  It was quite interesting to see this location on our Memphis visit.

In August, my mother and I took a road trip that included Memphis, TN.  While we were  there we visited Graceland - home to Elvis Presley.  It was a fun trip.

Remember Gonzo Gates?

Trapper John MD was a television series that ran from 1979 to 1986 starring Pernell Roberts as Trapper John and Gregory Harrison as young doctor Gonzo Gates.  Gregory Harrison never does these Hollywood type shows so seeing him there really made my day.  His wife Randi Oakes was there for the Chips Reunion (she played Office Bonnie Clark).  I am happy to report that Gregory Harrison has aged very well.  He is still as handsome as he was in 1979. His hair has turned grey, but that makes him look very distinguished.  He was also very accommodating and friendly.

Meeting Lou Grant!

One of the highlights of the October HOLLLYWOOD Show was meeting Ed Asner.  I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as the drama Lou Grant.  He was a nice guy and he clearly loved the interaction with his fans.
